Is it possible? Can you induce amnesia with electricshock therapy? Or any other way?

Well, I'm not too sure about electric shock therapy. It would be incredibly risky to apply to the brain, as you would have to have a very thorough working knowledge of the electrical currents of the brain in order to be truly successfully. Then there's always the chance that the therapy might screw something else up.



Anyway, the few things I know that can induce amnesia is self-induced amnesia, usually due to a very traumatic experience, or there are drugs that, when taken, can completely erase the memories of things that happen while the drug takes affect. They use it for surgery sometimes, like setting bones or things; the patient feels everything during the surgery, but once he or she wakes, the memory of the surgery is completely erased. The date rape drugs also induce memory lost--the victim will not remember anything that happens while under the influence of the drug.



Otherwise, it's the typical head trauma-induced amnesia. Whether getting hit, shot, or jolted. But if it's electricity, you can't ever really know what will change in the mind.I am writing a drama.. Brainstorming.. Is induced amnesia possible?
Yes it is possible.



The electric shock therapy is actually called Electro Convulsive Therapy - commonly referred to as ECT.



Patients are put to sleep before the procedure and it is quite common for them to wake with temporary memory loss.



Some patients memory loss can continue for quite some time. It is also not uncommon when 'waking up' from ECT to have vivid flash backs of memories.
