Test your B12 levels...Vitamin B12 deficiency can be misdiagnosed as alzheimer's disease....so yes memory loss is huge with this deficiency. I went to the supermarket and had to ring up to ask what 3 items i had come to the supermarket to buy lol. B12 levels should be over 600pmol, regardless of what the labs say, up to 1300pmol is what i am aiming for... A MMA (methylmalonic acid) test is more accurate of diagnosing B12 deficiency. A Homocysteine test is another way to check your B12 levels...should be 6.3umol/L for optimal health. B12 is brain food.
a case of the old stressIs it Amnesia or am i really Dumb?!?
Short-term memory loss .
First, congratulations on all you have accomplished in your 29 years ... you, and those who love you, should be quite proud -you have so much to be admired!

Next, you are not dumb! Pause and consider who you are and what you've already achieved ... that all takes effort, discipline, a formidable sense-of-self, and a comfort and confidence in decision-making. Again, all things to be proud of ....

Of course, on this forum we can only provide some educated guesses -and suggestions- regarding your dilemma and, as such, that is all I can propose.

You have a lot on your plate and, I'd guess, beyond your multiple roles and obligations, a high level of expectations -not only for yourself but also from those around you. Being a mom is in itself the ultimate 24/7 obligation ... it is all about sacrifice for the rewards that accrue from raising a child. It is relentlessly demanding -even when our other roles and responsibilities have already drained our mental and physical activity ... plus you have another on the way.

I'm sure you realize the level of stress -emotionally as well as physiologically- your body and mind is enduring of late ... your pregnancy alone is an enormous shift for your bio-chemical make-up and, at some level, could be instrumental in some of the memory issues you presently face.

Do not discount adult ADHD. As much as some folks -including within the medical profession- discount the actuality and efficacy of this disorder, it is a bona fide disorder recognized as having impact on children and adults alike. Some of the things you mention (trouble studying, forgetfulness across a range of issues, from what is read to what has been recently said) are classic symptoms. Based on the little bit of information you shared here, I'd strongly suggest that you take this into consideration and, if nothing else, have it eliminated medically as a possibility.

from personal experiences in my family and profession, I have witnessed the debilitating effects of ADHD going undiagnosed and the severe self-recriminations that result.

Beyond your personal or family physician, be sure to sit with a psychiatrist and determine if ADHD is indeed a large part of the problem.

Good luck in you exams coming up in three months -and take care.Is it Amnesia or am i really Dumb?!?
Tell your doctor.

Stress and habits can turn what was just a mental thing into an actual chemical imbalance. I had the same problem, I tried to live with it for 15 years, finally went to the doctor and have been fixed literally inside of a month. Once you've become balanced again, you can teach yourself to be 'normal' and go off the meds.
